It’s time once again for Montreal’s own Home Movie Day!

Home Movie Days are held in the fall in many cities around the world, both to promote and to celebrate the legacy of amateur and home-made films from the 20th century.

Over the course of an afternoon, the public is invited to bring out their own home movies on formats such as 8mm, Super 8 and 16mm film or on VHS or other more recent formats. Various experts at the event will be able to give advice on the condition of the films, how they can be safely played or digitized.

There will be projections of home movies with film projectors all afternoon, featuring films showing Montreal neighborhoods from the 20th century.

ARCMTL has made a growing number of rare Montreal publications available in this collection on the Internet Archive, with recently added titles such as Voice of Montreal, Images, Virus and Pop Rock Jeunesse. More archival material can be found on our Youtube channel, including our playlist of ephemeral films and home movies; and the Montreal Sound Ark radio show on CKUT 90.3FM on Tuesdays from 9 – 11 p.m.

If you’d like to consult the collections at our archive centre, please contact us by email to make an appointment.
